In recent years I have translated and edited texts from a wide range of fields, e.g.:

Social sciences and education: numerous journal and book articles, conference papers and research proposals on sociology, social work, social pedagogy, and education, including work on early childhood education, childhood studies, youth studies, the integration of the second generation of immigrants, vocational training systems, and the sociology of work. Also website texts, handbooks and official documentation for German universities. Book translations: Kai-Olaf Maiwald and Inken Suerig, Microsociology: A Tool Kit for Interaction Analysis (Routledge, 2019), Project Society After Money, Society After Money: A Dialogue (Bloomsbury Academic, 2019) (co-translation with others), Christine W. Culture and the arts: scholarly articles on German and comparative literature, film and television studies, philosophy, media history, art, art history and architecture. Information texts for museums and historical monuments. A book on medieval literature and other forms of media: Christian Kiening, Abundance and Lack: Mediality in the Middle Ages (ARC Humanities Press, 2019).

History and politics: a range of subject areas including West German social movements, democracy in Africa, European immigration policy, Swiss popular initiatives, sources of political legitimacy. A book-length history of a German family from the 17th to the 20th century. A book on the history of cartography: Ingrid Baumgärtner, Mapping Narrations - Narrating Maps: Concepts of the World in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period (De Gruyter, 2022). Most recent book translation, available from September 2023: Kristina Lunz, The Future of Foreign Policy is Feminist (Polity, 2023).

Resources, energy supply and the environment: website of a major mining museum, including numerous texts on mining archaeology; texts on sustainability, and on environmental, ethical and legal issues relating to resource use (wind power, nuclear power, deep sea mining). Since 2018 I have translated and edited numerous texts for the German nature conservation NABU. I’m also actively involved in nature conservation, volunteering with the Chelmsford Parks Service and the Essex Wildlife Trust.

Psychotherapy: various texts, including a book-length history, Development of Psychotherapy, published in 2010 as a supplement to the journal Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics.

Commercial and marketing material: websites/advertising brochures for hotels and other businesses, programmes of events, internal publications.

I am intensely curious about how societies work now, and how they have worked in the past, and in the human and natural forces that have shaped the world we live in. I’m also interested in ethics-related issues such as human rights and immigration, women’s rights and gender politics, animal welfare and the politics of food, energy policy and the environment.
